Geotextiles and geogrids are used as a separator between the formation subgrade and the stone capping layer in road construction. Geogrids are also used to strengthen the layers of road construction materials and a layer of geogrid can be incorporated between the layers of road stone. Geogrids are usually manufactured from polypropylene sheet, oriented in two directions with the ribs rectangular in cross section in both the longitudinal and transverse directions. Materials used to manufacture geotextiles and geogrids shall be inert to all chemicals naturally found in soils and shall be resistant to aqueous solutions of salts, acids and alkalis and be non biodegradable. Geogrid shall be manufactured in accordance with the Quality Assurance requirements of ISO 9002. |
